I’ve used Youth Hostels both home and abroad and have grown to love them over the years. The may not be the height of luxury but they are generally clean and offer some great advantages. They offer the opportunity to meet people of similar interests. Some of the hostels are lovely old buildings with a lot of history attached.
Annual Youth Hostel Trip
For the past 13 years in January I have rented out a whole hostel and filled it with people who like to get away for a mid-winter trip. We use to go mainly to North Wales or the Lake District but in more recent years have ventured out to other areas of England and Wales.

A more recent venture has been to try and stay in the Youth Hostels in alphabetical order. Why – because it takes me to places I may never have though of visiting. At the end of 2010 I had been to all nine hostels beginning with ‘A’. Now onto the Bs!
